Most HVAC system manufacturers recommend that you maintain both the heating and air conditioning components of your HVAC system once a year. They do, however, recommend that these two parts be completed separately. A homeowner should get their air conditioner maintained in the spring and their furnace serviced in the fall.
The average HVAC system has a life expectancy of roughly 15 years if it is not maintained. HVAC systems may be extended by up to ten years with annual maintenance. Modern air conditioners are designed to be more efficient and last longer. However, they are not impervious to the wear that comes with daily use. As they are used season after season, they can become dusty, parts can loosen, and systems can become less efficient. This might mean that air conditioners have to work twice as hard to keep a home cool and as a consequence, the unit may not last as long as it should.
Small HVAC repairs, such as fuses, circuits, or thermostat replacement, range in price from $150 to $290. Expect to spend $200 to $1,500 on significant repairs, such as repairing a refrigerant leak or evaporator coil. The majority of AC repair jobs range from $125 to $459. Most HVAC firms have a minimum service call fee of $75 to $200. That amount will usually be removed from your bill or applied as the first hour of labor. Before making an appointment, make sure to consult with the HVAC specialist.
